Can Kenny McLean shine in the Premier League? Norwich City’s Scottish midfielder Kenny McLean joined the club with a fair amount of fanfare last summer, having previously impressed in Scotland with Aberdeen and prior to that St Mirren. McLean is a one-time teammate of former Canary James Maddison, who spent the first half of 2016/17 … Continue reading Can Kenny McLean shine in the Premier League?
It is amazing to think that some people still don’t know about the leagues outwith our SPFL. The Lowland League, sitting just below League 2, has now started to cause some waves with eye-opening transfers and ambitious ex-Junior sides pushing to join the traditional “big” leagues. So – the question is, if you’re going to … Continue reading The Low Down – 5 Lowland League Players to watch out for
In a generation where footballers from the United Kingdom are branching into foreign markets, it has now become an attractive prospect for players to kick-off their professional careers. We have seen great success for Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund whilst the likes of Reece Oxford (Augsburg), Reiss Nelson (Hoffenheim) and Rabi Matondo (Schalke) have made … Continue reading David Bates: The Ginger Ramos in 2. You can feel it; that chill in the air, the darkness when you leave for work and darkness on your return home. The constant defrosting of your car in the morning and the taking down of the Christmas tree. There really is not a lot to look forward to in the month of January. Except for the January sales, of course. The thrill of trying to snag the bargain buys that will see you through the year. Well, my friends Dave King, Mark Allan and Steven Gerrard were first in the queue this year: picking up the bargains before anyone else even had a chance to browse through the rack.
2018 was a strange year for Motherwell fans... There were some great highs, such as reaching the Scottish Cup final, our second major final of the 2017/18 campaign and beating four top flight sides on the way to what was a magnificent day, despite being on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline against Celtic … Continue reading Motherwell – January Window update
It's January, the sales have started and the bargain hunters are already out in force. Football clubs are no different. However, the January transfer window can be a difficult time for clubs to find value in. Chairmen can be frozen with indecision. Stick or twist? Sky Sports News' yellow-tied deadline day hysteria looms ahead. Will you be stuck with a dud on a 36 month contract if you make the wrong move? Can you trust your team's manager to pick the right transfer targets if he can't even pick up three points now and again? Is the journeyman centre back you're so keen on worth the money? Do you need to keep the money for a rebuilding project and a new manager in the summer? When do the shops close? All these questions are making me need some retail therapy! Pure Fitbaw has braved the crowds queuing at 6am outside shopping centres, cast our eye over umpteen displays of last season's out of style stock and picked out a handful of bargains that are currently plying their trade in Scotland's SPFL League 2.
Written for Purefitbaw by Calum Brown... I take a look at St Johnstone’s potential exploits in the January transfer window, with the Perth club looking to continue their impressive start to the season. The Saints sit 6th in the top flight thanks to a superb defensive record, and stand-out performances from the likes of … Continue reading St Johnstone – 3 players that Saints could target in January.
When I was asked to produce this piece looking into what my club will look to achieve this upcoming transfer window, I jumped at the chance. Finally, I had an excuse to prize myself away from endless debates over fan conduct and having to explain why Ann Budge never being seen in her Ellesse tracksuit … Continue reading Hearts F.C Jan 2019 – Less Is More…
Since the summer, Partick Thistle have gone from a club fighting for a return to the Premiership, to a club fighting against the embarrassment of a second relegation in a row. Gary Caldwell replaced club legend Alan Archibald back in October, but the change has not had the impact required. In fact, results have worsened … Continue reading 5 players that Partick Thistle could sign
